Hotel of the Year Award - Small Hotel (50 rooms or less)

LITTLE ARCHES BOUTIQUE HOTEL
Located at Enterprise Beach Road, Christ Church, Little Arches Boutique Hotel is a small, exquisite getaway for your ideal vacation. Opened in October 2002 as the smallest hotel in Barbados it has managed to be inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame Certificate of Excellence, which it has been a holder for the past six years. Even though it is an intimate property, they maintain a very strong presence in foreign markets and realise the responsibility of representing Barbados as one they take very seriously.  Little Arches has also been involved with the community, working with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The Variety Club and the “Pack for a Purpose” program.
 
THE SANDPIPER HOTEL
Situated on the West Coast of the island in the historic Holetown, St James, The Sandpiper Hotel has the continual goal to ensure excellence in the quality of their product and service. At the heart of that knowledge is their commitment to sustainable environmental practices, constant upgrades including attaining hotel amenities, accommodation attractiveness, and securing relationships with both staff and guests (past and present). With the closing the hotel and the reopening on November 1st 2015, the hotel still managed to attain a “2015 Certificate of Excellence” from trip advisor and was awarded “2015 Winner of the World Travel Awards”. The Sandpiper Hotel is a wonderful example of excellence in small hotel properties.
 
YELLOW BIRD HOTEL
Situated in the popular tourist area - St. Lawrence Gap - Yellow Bird Hotel has been in operation for the past 19 years and counting. They have been awarded Trip Advisor Hall of Fame – Certificate of Excellence in 2015, having been a holder of the Certificate of Excellence for the past three years. Yellow Bird has supported the local tourism associations, such as the BTMI, BHTA and IHB through attending various events and training sessions, as well as donating a number of rooms night for promotional activities, and also supporting the CHTA’s Scholarship Fund. In addition, they have made a significant contribution to the industry by drastically improving their product with a US$1.25 million renovation in 2015. This facelift allows them to now offer a more international style of accommodation, of course with a Barbadian feel to their rooms. Yellow Bird is a prime example of “Big things come in small packages”.

COLONY CLUB
Surrounded by seven areas of beautiful tropical gardens, Colony Club offers a little haven of peace and tranquillity. Located in Paynes Bay St. James, Colony Club is a superb property, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean - perfect for a relaxing and fun-filled vacation on the island. The 96 rooms hotel is a part of the Elegant Hotels Group, holding and employs 145 staff. In addition, they have been very supportive in the subject of environmental sustainability with recycling and using eco-friendly technology. They also continue to provide support to all the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. offices in their promotional activities and tours. SEA BREEZE BEACH HOTEL
Sea Breeze Beach Hotel is a 4 star all‐inclusive resort located on the south‐coast of Barbados, boasting of 2.5 acres beach front and ocean views. Sea Breeze offers guests an intimate and authentic Barbadian experience with stellar service and hospitality. The hotel, which has been in operation for just over 7 years, has been awarded AAA 3 Diamond status, achieved TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2015, and has also seen an improvement of 10 spaces on the popular travel site. Sea Breeze continues to contribute to the human resource development of the tourism industry through on-going personal and skills training for staff; additionally they bring on an average of 20 interns a year from BCC and 4 from National Assistance Board. Located in Keswick Centre, Hastings, Christ Church, Champers is a superb restaurant with excellent food with a beautiful view of Rockley Beach. At Champers, they believe in rewarding excellence. TIAMI CATAMARAN CRUISES
Introduced to Barbados over 35 years ago, Tiami Catamaran Cruises is a very proud Barbadian company that has set the standard for the catamaran industry in Barbados and the Caribbean. With five catamarans in its fleet, including a luxurious catamaran brand called "Spirit of Barbados", Tiami has grown to be the largest “day charter” catamaran company in the region. Tiami Catamarans continues to focus on staff training and on improving the catamarans, as Tiami owns its own boat repair facility, and the overall product offering to its guests. This growth is testament to the amazing experiences that the captain and crew give to the guests on a daily basis. The indivdual understands the importance of tourism to Barbados and is aware of the role that they play in delivering memorable experiences to all their guests; the importance of exceeding expectations. This tourism champion must show the ability to work as a team towards the delivery of service excellence.

HEATHER HINDS - THE CLUB, BARBADOS
Heather Hinds is a cook at The Club Barbados Resort and Spa. A veteran in the hotel industry, she has worked at this property for over thirty years. Committed and dedicated employee, Heather’s main focus has always been to “look after her guests”. In her quest to achieve this goal, Heather has an impeccable attendance record since she has recorded Perfect Attendance for the thirty years that she has worked in the Hotel industry. She is often named as “The Queen of the Grill” as her main duties takes her out front on The Buffet Table as she prepares breakfast and lunch items for her many guests. Heather is an ambassador for the hotel as well as for the island.

RIA TAYLOR - BOUGAINVILLEA BEACH RESORT
Ria Taylor has been a wedding coordinator at Bougainvillea Beach Resort for the past eight (8) years. She had doubled the number of weddings between 2014 and 2015, encouraging couples to bring their friends to celebrate with them, which increases the word-of-mouth communication to others about destination Barbados. She works and communicates well with others and creates an environment that promotes respect, integrity, fairness and professionalism. Ria is a team player and is always looking out for her team mates, on both a professional and personal level. Willingness to participate within and outside the scope of her job, Ria takes Bougainvillea’s motto “creating customers for life” very seriously as she keeps in contact with several couples.

RUTH FORDE - SAVANNAH BEACH HOTEL
Ruth, better known as “Jackie”, is currently employed as the VIP Beach Ambassador at the Savannah Hotel. She has been recognised monthly in the hotel’s staff recognition program when acknowledged on TripAdvisor and comments cards as a member of staff who contributed to a favourable holiday. Jackie has made a positive and vast contribution to our industry as she assists daily in getting persons to return to Savannah Beach Hotel in Barbados. She has won the hearts of many guests with her witty character and caring professional demeanour that allows our guests to feel at home. Jackie serves as a daily inspiration and source of motivation to her team-mates; as many team members call her “mummy” as they see her as a wealth of information, having an unparalleled level of excellent customer service with a genuine sense of care. For these reasons, it is believed that she is an exemplary model for Hotel Tourism Champion.  




 Tourism Champion Award - Hotel Supervisor

Awarded to an individual employed by a member hotel, who demonstrates an outstanding work ethic that is an example of excellence for others to emulate. The indivdual understands the importance of tourism to Barbados and is aware of the role that they play in delivering memorable experiences to all their guests; the importance of exceeding expectations. This tourism champion must show the ability to work as a team towards the delivery of service excellence.

DAVID MAPP - DIVI SOUTHWINDS
David Mapp has been employed with Divi Southwinds and Heritage Resorts for the past 24 years. Recognised as an outstanding supervisor, David has captured the Supervisor of the Year awards at Divi, from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2014 and 2016. He has been recognised for his excellent leadership skills exhibited within his department and across the organisation as a whole. He settles for nothing less than excellence and daily assists in encouraging team members to always put their best foot forward and do what is required according to the company’s standards. He always stresses his infamous quote: “We will make it happen; The Customer is King”. Whenever a customer is upset, David always takes a negative situation and turns it into positive interactions, which often form customer relationships. All in all, David is an excellent ambassador for Barbados.

SADE DAISLEY - OCEAN TWO RESORT & RESIDENCES
Sade started her journey as a room attendant in the Housekeeping Department at Ocean Two Resort. Soon her talents, willingness to learn and her ability to apply herself to any task were discovered and she was offered the position of Rooms Care Supervisor in the Maintenance Department and, as they say - the rest is history. She was then promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and she took on this task with dedication, ensuring that even though she was mainly responsible for a predominately male staff that this task was carried out with confidence and tact. She is described as an avid team player and never considers a task “too big”. Whatever position Sade takes up, she carries out with grace and competence. 

SHELDENE YEARWOOD - CORAL REEF CLUB
Sheldene Yearwood joined the Coral reef Club Team on November 27, 2014 in the capacity of Head of Housekeeping. She currently leads a team of approximately fifty-five team members and has been operating in the tourism field for thirty-four years. Sheldene has been the recipient of several awards throughout her career including Supervisor Service Certificate and Perfect Attendance Award. As a “new” leader at Coral Reef Club with only two years in her position, Sheldene works extremely well across departments, always providing feedback on cross departmental functions, identifies problems with ease and also works assiduously to identify ways and methods of solving issues. She is supportive of her colleagues and tries to assist wherever possible. Sheldene embraces the concept of going above and beyond within her role and this is demonstrated through her every day approach and work ethic.

DEXTER SYDNEY - TIAMI CATAMARAN CRUISES
Dexter is very passionate about his job. He strives to ensure that every guest has an enjoyable day and have an experience that will have them encouraging loved ones to take part. His hard work being a crew member has paid off as Dexter is promoted into his new position as newest captain at Tiami Cruises.

JOHN MOORE - BLACK PEARL PARTY CRUISES
John Moore of Black Pearl Cruises is a dedicated employee of the company. With that being said he had never taken a sick day nor did he never take a casual day of for himself. That shows the enthusiasm and how devoted he is to his job. Black Pearl Cruises have never gotten any negative complaints about him from the guests on any of the cruises. He had nothing but numerous wonderful reviews from the guests. 

NYREE LOVELL - BELLEVUE HOUSE
Nyree Lovell has been working at Bellevue House for the past two years as a housekeeper.   She has a passion for her job, ensuring that her guests have memorable vacation experiences and often goes above and beyond the call of duty.  She strives to give her guests a home away from home feeling and truly enjoys her interaction with each visitor to our island.  She is described as a warm, kind, gem of a person and very punctual for work, and usually the last to leave. An exemplary employee, and a problem solver, Nyree is has consistently demonstrated a willingness to learn new skills as she recently earned her Wedding Coordinator’s Certificate from the Weddings Professional Institute of Canada.  Overall, Nyree Lovell is a true example of excellence in Barbados.

CHRISTOPHER BANFIELD
Christopher Banfield has been in the tourism industry for over 30 years. Mr Banfield’s Knowledge of tourism industry is second to none. He is a very dedicated employee that would be hard to replace.

NICHOLAS ROSE - #1 BAJAN BUS
Nicholas Rose has been in the tourism business in Barbados for the past 15 years. Nick joined the Attractions of Barbados in 2013 to activate the Bajan Bus Project – Open Buses. With a 60-year old open bus and the right attitude, he started day 1 as a receptionist, tour guide, bus cleaner, rum punch mixer, music provider, singer, mechanic and Supervisor. Within six weeks of starting the business, a replica bus was commissioned to be made in Barbados, and in September 2014, the second bus was added to fleet. Nicholas has a passion, drive, commitment and the willingness to help the business grow, and in the 3 year period of operation, they have now expanded to four buses. With these attributes, he captured the hearts of his guests and his team.  Nicholas is truly an ambassador for Barbados

ROMARIO ALLEYNE - BLACK PEARL PARTY CRUISES
Black Pearl Cruises is very lucky to have an employee like Romario. He is a very talented gentleman. He also take pride and commitment to his job and his task at hand so much that he never took a day off nor haven had a sick day, which is very imposing  these days with the concerns of the rising numbers in employee absenteeism in the workplace. Mr Alleyne have always gotten excellent reviews from guests and never a complaint have been filed against him.
