A Salute to Alec Sanguinetti
Published on February 4, 2013

Hardworking, Untiring, Forceful and Committed – these are just some of the words aptly used to describe Mr. Alec Sanguinetti, former Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA). Mr. Sanguinetti has retired after nineteen years in executive positions with the Organisation and fifty-two years as one of the tourism industry’s top airline and hotel executives.

He was the second Chief Executive Officer for the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association in the association’s fifty year history. He originally joined the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association as Deputy Director General in 1993 working closely with Mr. John Bell, the association’s first Chief Executive Officer, and was named Director General and Chief Executive Officer in 2003.

Mr. Sanguinetti’s career began in the airline industry in 1960, with British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British West Indian Airways (BWIA). He was responsible for the start up and running of Jamaica Air Service and then involved in the start up of Air Jamaica in 1969 where he served as Vice President of Marketing until 1976. In 1977, Mr. Sanguinetti joined the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism as Director of International Sales and Marketing and in 1980 was appointed Managing Director of Cayman Airways.

On behalf of The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest appreciation to Mr. Sanguinetti for his selfless contribution to the industry and wish him every happiness for his retirement.
