THE NEWEST members to join the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) received an introduction to the Association, its history, function and benefits, during a new member’s orientation held recently.
CEO Rudy Grant explained that those in attendance were introduced to the Board of Directors and Secretariat and given information on the role of the Association including its advocacy and representation function on behalf of members.
“This is the first such type event hosted by the Association and is just one of the new activities we will be introducing to members in the near future. We are always looking for ways to engage our membership. It is important that new members are knowledgeable of our history and understand what we stand for and what we offer as an Association.
“The session also gave us a forum to find out the expectations of our new members, so that we are in a better position to meet their needs. As an Association we are committed to lobbying and representing our membership in a number of areas. The BHTA has representation on approximately thirty (30) Boards and Councils including the National Insurance Board, the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA) and the National Productivity Council,” Grant explained.
He noted that those attending the orientation also received information on the Association’s Tourism Fund, Bookbarbadosnow.com e-commerce platform, Culinary Team, Staycation Barbados, networking opportunities, access to funds for activity including training and scholarships, labour relations assistance, membership discounts and charitable activity.
They were also updated on the committees within the BHTA and their function including Government Affairs, Finance, Marketing and Product Development, Human Resources Development, Membership and Constitution, Safety and Security, Direct Tourism Services and Supporting Services, among other pertinent information.
