BHTA AND BDOA PARTNER FOR INAUGURAL DIVE FEST BARBADOS TO ENCOURAGE MORE VISITORS TO THE ISLAND
Published on August 25, 2017

IN our continued efforts to market the island and encourage more visitors to choose Barbados as their destination of choice, the BHTA partnered with the Barbados Dive Operators Association (BDOA), the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) and the Tourism Development Corporation (TDC) for the island’s first Dive Fest Barbados.

BHTA CEO, Rudy Grant, explained that even though Dive Fest was designed to encourage more visitors to the island with activities such as a Snorkel Day, it was also aimed at placing focus on the importance of our marine life and its preservation with a Conversation Day, Beach Clean-up and a free Water Awareness Programme for 100 children.

He said, “Dive Fest Barbados is more than just diving. The festival also involved an educational element for adults as well as the future of the nation who were taught that they must play a role in sustaining the environment and should engage in environmentally sound practices.

“We have a responsibility not only to ourselves, but to future generations of Barbadians and future visitors as well, to ensure that they are able to enjoy both our land environment, as well as our marine environment.”

Andre Miller, Chairman of the Association’s Environmental Committee and Dive Operators Association representative added, “We got off to a great start in our first year and our sponsors and organizers are all excited and looking forward to next year’s event scheduled for July 4 to 8, 2018.

“We wanted to declare to the rest of the world that Barbados is open for diving and this is exactly what Dive Fest 2017 did. Our aim was also to get more Barbadians in the water and more aware of the importance of our marine life and we were able to do this, especially with the Water Awareness programme.”
