Staycation Barbados was conceptualized in 2009 as a response to conditions created by the global recession, and the effect it was having on the occupancy levels of the members of the BHTA.
The programme was also created to address the absence of a structured domestic tourism strategy in Barbados, and additionally, provided a platform for the BHTA to heighten tourism awareness through the experiences of the public.
It had five (5) main objectives:
Today, Staycation Barbados has tremendous brand value in Barbados. A vacation at home is now referred to as a Staycation i.e. “I need a Staycation”.
Our tag line is “You deserve it”. Staycation Barbados rates for both activities and attractions are available to locals, residents and Caricom nationals.
