The process of the BHTA President’s Awards begins eight months before the event with an analysis of the industry to determine the awards categories. Submitted nominations are considered by a panel of judges. The results are kept strictly confidential until they are revealed at the awards event. Each awardee received a special, one of a kind piece of artwork created by Medford Mahogany Creations, from the recycled root of a mahogany tree. Each piece is first crafted by nature, and then finished by the artist Reggie Medford. The Green initiative award is an original piece from Earthworks Pottery.

Cherrise Mottley has been working at Little Arches Boutique Hotel for the past 19 years. She has a passion for ensuring that her guest have memorable vacation experiences and often goes above and beyond, even if it means taking a guest to experience Bridgetown on her day off. She strives to give her guests a home away from home feeling and truly enjoys her interaction with each visitor to our island. She is described as a gem of a person, an excellent employee, warm, kind and many more. But overall, Ms. Mottley is a true ambassador of Barbados.
Roland Field is a very dependable supervisor with great team and problem solving skills. He inspires his team to perform to the best of their ability, and has been able to develop initiatives that would result in cost savings and increase efficiency on the job. Never one to shrike from duty, he takes on added responsibility without question or complaint, making sure that all areas are covered during his shift. In his role as Maintenance Supervisor he does his best to make sure that guest stays are incident free and ensures that the environmental objectives of the property are met wherever possible.
Avril Clarke is a true example of dedication and commitment to the tourism industry. Employed at Bougainvillea Beach Resort for the past 18 years, her commitment to excellence on the job is known to both guests and staff alike. Avril practices attention to details, and is very professional in the way she manages her staff and all the elements of the hotel that impact on the guest experience. This treasured tourism ambassador also finds time to coordinate donations for the HIV/AIDS food bank as well as several Senior Citizens homes. She is also in charge of the breakfast supplies for the hotels adopted primary school. Her commitment has earned her tremendous respect from her colleagues and guests of the property.
When the BHTA first met with Regatta Travel Solutions to explore the development of our booking engine, bookbarbadosnow.com, no one in the room knew that it was the start of a one of the most key strategic relationships that the Association would have ever developed. Holding our hands at every step of the way, Ashwin from Regatta drew the Association into the 21st century, opening up a seamless opportunity for our members to reduce their tour operator reliance and receive direct, lower cost bookings. He opened up increase revenue opportunities that we are still working with him to unlock. The BHTA was his first major client, and as with all firsts, we know that we hold a special part in the Regatta heart.
Chef Graham Licorish has been the corner stone of the Barbados Culinary team process for many years. He is a true example of the saying ‘to whom much is given, much is expected”. The very talented Executive Chef at the prestigious Coral Reef Club, Chef Licorish has unselfishly given of his time and expertise to many young chefs and bartenders, being a mentor for many and providing unwavering guidance. Some of our most celebrated chefs have come under his guidance as part of the culinary team and as part of his team in his restaurant’s kitchen. Chef Graham receives unending gratitude from the Association for this, and for being there to support us with our many events such as the President’s Awards, with large conferences and international events, at which we sometimes gave him short notice. He has served this industry in a professional, dignified manner that is an example for many young chefs, and is truly an unsung hero of our culinary landscape. He is truly deserving of this honour this evening.
